The foundation of ACI-Dungarvin is built on three main principles: Advocacy, Compassion, and Integrity.

ACI Support Specialists, LLC-dba, ACI-Dungarvin, was established in 2004 and is committed to providing quality, person-centered services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and other special needs. It is ACI-Dungarvin’s mission to enhance the lives of the people we serve. We are dedicated to providing the best services possible through an organizational culture that holds steadfast to these principles. ACI-Dungarvin utilizes a person-centered program model that emphasizes participant self-determination and individual choice. As an organization, we have adopted a philosophy of continuous improvement in an environment where staff and participants are seen as equals.

ACI-Dungarvin currently provides services to children and adults in our Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Foster Care, and Adoption programs. ACI-Dungarvin maintains contracts with all North Carolina MCO’s, which allows our organization to provide services throughout the state of North Carolina. ACI-Dungarvin is CARF accredited for the IDD programs and our Foster Care program is certified with Together Facing the Challenge, a Foster Care model of care. Annual Goal Plans required by CARF play a major role in the services provided and your service experience. These plans are available upon request at NC-Compliance@dungarvin.com.

Services Offered by ACI-Dungarvin (North Carolina)

In-Home Services

In-Home services are developed to provide supports to a child, adolescent or adult living with his or her family or in their own living environment. We serve individuals with a broad range of abilities and needs and our in-home services vary. The person and the family design the level of support and service that is needed.

ACI-Dungarvin provides In-Home supports in the following ways:

Community Networking:

Services are designed to promote participation in community life while developing natural supports within integrated settings. Assistance is provided to promote independence and increase community connections.

Community Living and Support:

An individual service that enables the person served to live successfully in his/her home and be active member in the community. This service assists with learning new skills, and enhancing independence and self-care skills.

Respite – NC Innovations:

Respite services provide periodic or scheduled support and relief to the primary caregiver(s) for the responsibility and stress of caring for the individuals served.

Developmental Therapy Paraprofessional:

This service may include training in activities to strengthen appropriate developmental functioning in areas such as self-care, language and cognitive development, mobility, socialization, independent living, and self-advocacy and rights.

Developmental Therapy Professional Services:

This service is tailored to meet the needs of the entire family unit. Professional level staff will assist with providing positive behavioral intervention strategies to families. Services consist of family training, education and assistance, resources and supports.

Personal Assistance:

A support service which provides assistance with personal or living activities at home, support with skill development, assisting with community activities, and/or habilitation or rehabilitation services. This service gives families short-term relief from the constant caregiver role. Respite can also be planned on an emergency basis. Services include health, nutrition, and daily living skills.

Vocational Services

Vocational services provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities assistance with the initial stages of the employment assessment period, job searching and development, job coaching, and working independently.

Supported Employment

At ACI-Dungarvin, this service includes pre-job training/education and development activities to prepare a person to engage in meaningful work-related activities which include:

  • career/educational counseling
  • active job searching
  • job shadowing assistance in the use of educational resources
  • training in resume preparation
  • job interview skills
  • study skills
  • assistance necessary for job retention

Hourly Supports

Dungarvin's hourly supports provide staffing only when a person needs assistance. Staff are scheduled to be on-site to assist an individual according to his or her personal needs and goals. In some instances, staff may only drop by to assist with medication needs or financial assistance. In others, staff may be scheduled for longer time periods to assist with additional daily living skills.

Residential Services

Residential services are provided to an individual living in his or her own home or apartment with or without roommates, depending on the location. These sites serve individuals of various need levels, including individuals with significant medical, physical, or behavioral challenges. Staffing levels vary by the needs of the people being served. The focus of these services is to enhance independence and quality of life. Dungarvin's residential services are very flexible and easily modified to meet changing abilities, interests, choices, and needs of individuals.

Supported Living Services:

These supports provide a flexible partnership that enables a person to live in their own home with support from ACI-Dungarvin. This service assists with daily living, household chores, budget management, attending appointments and interpersonal and social skill building.

Alternative Family Living (AFL):

This service provides supports to enable an individual to live in an Alternative Family Living (AFL) setting of their choice and be active in his/her community. The outcome of this service is to increase or maintain the person’s life skills, provide needed supervision, maximize his or her self-sufficiency and increase self-determination.

Foster Care Services

Foster care is a specialized service providing safe, loving homes and intensive support to children or adults with traditional, special and/or complex needs. Supports provided vary depending upon the needs of the individual and family.

ACI-Dungarvin has been a Licensed Child Placing Agency for North Carolina since 2008.

Family Foster Care:

This program serves children and youth who must live apart from their parents due to abuse, neglect or other circumstances.

Therapeutic Foster Care:

This is a mental health service provided to a child in a family setting by specially trained foster parents. Therapeutic foster care serves children with challenges somewhat greater than normal, including medically fragile children and children who have emotional and behavioral issues that require counseling and intensive in-home therapy.
